It was a good night of trivia at the Black Swan with 11 teams competing. Hot Sauce won the first set with 28 points, followed by Squelch with 27 and The Outsiders with 23.
The second set provided a bit of controversy as I initially scored Squelch and Hot Sauce as tied for first place. Squelch’s answer to the bonus round question (What year was cruise control first offered as an option on select Chrysler models?) originally appeared to be 1968. On further review I gave them credit for the correct answer of 1958. Hot Sauce was awarded the free round of beer, but Squelched received the 5 extra points for their correct answer. I’ve included the picture at the right.
Some of the more interesting trivial tidbits from the night included:
- New York, not North Carolina, was the first state to offer a specialty license plate honoring Nascar legend Dale Earnhardt.
- French engineer Louis Reard invented the bikini.
- Bob Barker, the former host of “The Price Is Right,” studied martial arts with Chuck Norris.
- Scott Jeckel and Ray Perisin set a Guinness World Record in 1999 when Scott blew a marshmallow out of his nose and into Ray’s mouth. The marshmallow traveled 16 feet, 3.5 inches.
Standings to follow soon.
